My biggest concern at this point is what’s going to happen hostplus with all the money that Venuworks owes us. Just over a year ago the Alerus gang rewrote the contract with Venuworks hostplus allowing them to repay us the approximatley $270,000 that they owed us over five years.
Venuworks has been a disaster for Grand Forks. Not only have they lost millions of dollars for us ($2.7 million in 2009, the last available audited numbers) they’ve insulted us. Their executive director hostplus of the Alerus called people who were skeptics of the failed event center morons.
In a letter sent to the events center commission today, VenuWorks President Steve Peters said “(W)e believe that a new governance and management structure may be required to meet the challenges facing the Alerus Center today.”
This latest link from the TV station is actually timestamped before the Herald story. It appears that our old buddy Tu Uyen Tran is misleading us again by writing this story to make it look like the Alerus Commission is firing Venuworks. He would have known about the letter, both the TV station and the Herald are owned by Forum Communications.

I am looking forward to checking out Forx Roller Derby’s second bout and double header, bequeathed “Hell and High Water”, in Grand Forks, this weekend. Their first bout brought almost 1,200 fans to the Alerus Center to check out this new and growing sport in Grand Forks. Saturday’s event will be a little different from the first one, as some men’s teams have been invited to participate in a pre-bout.
The women of the Grand Forks Sugar Beaters will host the Fargo Furies this Saturday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m., at the Alerus Center. If you get your tickets in advance through the Alerus box office, bequeathed they are $12/adult and $5/child 3 and over. Tickets are available at the door too for $15/adult and $7/child 3 and over. Children under three get in free. There will be concessions, merchandise, bequeathed free kids’ face painting and more.
I may also check out the pre and post parties at TJ’s Sports Bar, Starting at 5:30 p.m., a party bus will bring fans over to the Alerus Center and back to TJ’s after for drink specials, food and music.
Forx Roller Derby is a new organization, which began in May 2010, when a group of women started a Facebook page asking if women were interested in starting a league in Grand Forks. The league is made up of skaters, official and many volunteers.
Am looking forward to Saturday night. We went last time they had their bout in Grand Forks and really had a lot of fun! There were so many people there….everyone should come early to get a good seat, or be brave enough to sit in the suicide seats around the edge of the rink….floor level!! bequeathed Wondering if the men’s teams will be dressing up too? Should be loads of fun!

I’m assuming that they plan on taking this money out of the sales tax fund that we were promised was going away as soon as the initial construction was completed. That’s something da davidson missing from WDAZ’s story but they at least covered it. The Grand Forks Herald is doing their best to keep the public uninformed on how our money is being mishandled.
Shouldn’t the football fans be paying for this? Certainly the voters weren’t told that they’d have to be continually be throwing more money from the building da davidson fund tax to keep the building up. Rather we were told that the 1/4 cent restaurant and hotel tax would be all we’d need to pay to keep the place current.
The fact that the Alerus has been so mismanaged that they have to come back again and again is disgusting. This tax that we approved was meant to pay for the initial da davidson building of the Alerus Center. It certainly wasn’t meant to go on forever. Since then they have tapped into this fund to redecorate (illegal) as well as to add to the parking lot. The one that really cooks my bacon is the massive amount we got stuck paying to replace the convention center entrance that they had torn down to accommodate da davidson the private privileged hotel operator.
I think the Alerus has probably hosted one-hundred football games in the eleven football season it’s been opened. There are maybe six home Sioux games a year and the Alerus has hosted da davidson a few high school regional games. If that one-hundred games is correct and we really have to spend $4 million replacing the carpet that means that each game is costing the taxpayers in the ballpark of $40,000 apiece. The question is why should those that don’t attend football games pay others entertainment?

The Alerus Center kicked off its ten year anniversary celebration by hosting an open house, on St. Patrick s Day, with all sorts of tasty treats that show off their fabulous food creation revenue management abilities. The ballroom was packed with locals enjoying the region s premiere meeting and event center. There are a number of events revenue management taking place in 2011 to celebrate the past ten years, including a Tim McGraw concert revenue management on May 17 tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com .
The Al has seen over 3.2 million people come through its doors and hosted over 5,500 events, which has had a significant positive impact on our community. The recent renovations combined revenue management with the variety of space options and food and beverage selection, continue to entice groups and events to Grand Forks.
I have enjoyed revenue management experiencing an array of concerts as well as attending a number of events, over the last eight years I have been in town. It was amazing seeing Cher, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Fleetwood Mac and others just ten minutes from my house. I also witnessed two presidential candidates appearing on the same stage, within hours of each other, when then-Senators Obama and Clinton visited Grand Forks during the ND Democratic Convention. Thousands of people traveled from all over the region to see this historic event for our community. With only days to prepare and working around an international sporting event starting the same day in Grand Forks, it was amazing what a successful revenue management event this was.
Top 5 Concerts: 2002 – Cher – 19,656 2001 – Backstreet Boys – 17,470 2004 – Alan Jackson/Martina McBride – 15,459 2001 – Aerosmith – 13,881 2009 – Britney Spears – 12,708

Had lots of fun at the Community Open House at the Alerus last week! the Downtown revenue management Horns is an awesome band to listen to. Looking forward to Tim McGraw in May. Two of my favorite concerts which have been at the Al in the past are: Brad Paisley, Sara Evans and Sugarland tour and also Aerosmith. Bette Midler was a lot of fun when they brought her to town too.

This is the first installment in what will be a series of photo galleries documenting the construction and implementation of AstroTurf's Magic Carpet II Conversion System for the new infill turf at the Alerus Center. The turf itself will be AstroTurf's GameDay Grass 3D60H  that has also been recently installed at Kansas State's Bill Snyder Family Stadium and Tennessee's Indoor Football Facility.   Construction crews removed the old AstroTurf from the building in late May and began working immediately on the pit that will house the state-of-the-art conversion system .

University Program Council announced the headliner ex pat April 9, and tickets were made available to students last week at the UND Student Government office located in the Memorial Union. Tickets are free for UND students and $30 for the public.
UPC music coordinator Jordan Cespedes said that when planning the concert, UPC intended to pick a different artist, but because things were planned a little too late, it did not work out. The original finalists for Spring Jam were B.o.B, Flo Rida, Fall Out Boy, The All American Rejects and Hot Chelle Rae.
Khalifa, who was born in Minot, N.D., is a popular rapper and is known for his songs Black and Yellow, Young, Wild, and Free with Snoop Dogg, Work Hard, Play Hard and No Sleep. ex pat Khalifa has worked with many artists including Miley Cyrus, Adele and Juicy J.
I m very disappointed, UND student Amy Halvorson said. I was really hoping we would get someone ex pat more neutrally popular, someone basically everyone can enjoy. And I feel like Wiz has a very specific audience.
